Fear & Anticipation

These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world. Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Is fear holding you back from living your fullest life and being truly self expressed? Put yourself in the shoes of the you who’s already lived your dream and write out the answers to the following:

Is the insecurity you’re defending worth the dream you’ll never realize? or the love you’ll never venture? or the joy you’ll never feel?

Will the blunder matter in 10 years? Or 10 weeks? Or 10 days? Or 10 minutes?

Can you be happy being anything less than who you really are?

Now Do. The Thing. You Fear.

(Author: Lachlan Cotter)

(deep breath) (stepping into shoes)

Is the insecurity worth the dream you’ll never realize? No. It never really was. You just think it was and that is what’s keeping you from just going ahead and doing it already.  That nagging, tugging feeling at the bottom of your stomach never goes away. That’s the beauty of pursuing something you love: there’s always something scary yet exciting about it.

Will it matter in 10 years? The feeling that you’re feeling right now – the absodamnlutely scared feeling – won’t matter 10 years from now. In fact, it won’t matter 10 seconds from now. Everything that’s worth doing has an element of fear to it and deciding to hide from the fear is normal. We’re human. We hide from the new and exciting when it scares us – and that’s OK sometimes. The key is to let ourselves feel scared – and then do it anyway.

Can I be happy being anything less? Nope. I found that out awhile ago – and decided to do something about it. Sure, I have my setbacks. I fall into the same routine of being scared and shying away from something amazing. But then I get over it, take a deep breath, and plunge into what I knew I should have been doing all along.
